Ruth’s foray into the world of entertainment began at an early age, when she was cast as the lead in a play put on by her girl scout troupe. Since then, she has been involved with numerous performance troupes, as a dancer, and actor, and a singer. She has appeared in commercial print, on weekly magazine covers, and even as an extra in an independent movie release. Her adventure with the Belles began as an original member in 2000. Since then, she has expanded her skills from just singing and acting to tambourine, bodhran, mandolin and bozouki. She also writes and arranges some of the songs for the group. What, you may wonder, drives Ruth as a performer? “It’s all about the audience. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to move someone on an emotional level; to make them laugh, make them smile, make them cry.” She believes strongly that if she’s entertaining herself more than her audience, then she’s doing it wrong. In her spare time, Ruth may be found pursuing a variety of artistic endeavors, including (but not limited to) writing, jewelry making, cooking, creating irreverent greeting cards, and costuming (and she is also the costumer for the Belles). She is also an avid dancer, and her favorite dance style is lindy hop.
